Let me help you out with understanding the crowd that joins the Merchant Navy. To be brutally honest with you, like every other profession, only a very few people who come into this field are super smart and get through exams easily. The majority of the population is either above average or average only. The exams are meant to gauge your abilities in being a safe officer onboard, they ask you the absolute bare minimum you need to know. They're not competitive and they don't give out ranks. They're not extremely tough to crack. With enough effort from your side, you can get through them. I will tell you one thing, if you take it too easy, bunk classes, have a merry time during your study hols, show up half prepared to the exams, you already know what's gonna happen.
