How to get coc
Hello! I hold a 2nd mates’ CoC. Let me help you out with understanding the crowd that joins the Merchant Navy. To be brutally honest with you, like every other profession, only a very few people who come into this field are super smart and get through exams easily. The majority of the population is either above average or average only. The exams are meant to gauge your abilities in being a safe officer onboard, they ask you the absolute bare minimum you need to know. They're not competitive and they don't give out ranks. They're not extremely tough to crack. With enough effort from your side, you can get through them.
I will tell you one thing, if you take it too easy, bunk classes, have a merry time during your study hols, show up half prepared to the exams, you already know what's gonna happen. Enjoy your classes and holidays but responsibly. Study when it is time to study and play when it is time to play.
And don't delay your exams. If you finish your course in say, April, get your assessment done hand-in-hand and appear immediately in May for the written exams. Everyone thinks, “Oh God, there's only 15 days left for the exams, how will I ever study? Let me appear the next time. I'll have a lot of time to study.” TBH, you forget everything once you're out of class and out of the study mode. When you appear immediately, your memory is fresh and you push yourself to give your best attempt. When you take a 2-month break, you forget most of what you learnt. You go on trips and outings and end up studying only ten days before the exam anyway. So why wait and waste time and study for ten days later when you can study for ten days now and give your best attempt when the memory is fresh? You can get the exams out of your way soon and concentrate on Orals. The exams are already spaced out in such a way that there are only a few attempts per person in one year (not every month). If you skip the nearest one to you, you'll have to wait maybe 2–3 months to appear again. And unfortunately if you fail a paper in it, you have to wait another 2–3 months to clear it. That's 6 months at home with no salary and unnecessary pressure from everyone. I really really urge you to take your exams seriously when you're preparing for them and give your 100% like you studied for your board exam. You will easily clear it. I cleared 6 written exams in 2nd mates and 10 written exams in Chief mates, all in one attempt each because I put so much effort into it. Money is always a restriction for me so I had to push myself to get through the first attempt itself and I did. Same way find a motivation and dedicate yourself. You will easily get through. All the very best.
